Home

They released me on Friday morning, and Kevin came to get me and bring me home.  The only thing that really concerns me is that I have NO idea if my whites are still climbing.  I just have to assume that they are.  I am pretty much on lock-down for the weekend, avoiding public places and close contact.

Monday morning, I'll go back to work, still avoiding close contact until Tuesday's blood work gets drawn.  I had accrued 28 hours of vacation time toward next year, and that will cover most of the 4 days I missed while in the hospital.  I'm thankful that those were available, but a bit scared to have my safety net gone.  This simply cannot happen again.  No problem.

The worst part so far is that it seems that all of the side effects from early on are back.  I have a nearly constant headache, I can't sleep, and I'm emotional as hell.  I had a really bad headache last night, so I took what felt like enough pills to drop an elephant, and was back up at 1:30.  *sigh*  I had been sleeping fine for a couple of weeks (without pills) before this setback.

Basically, I think the quarantine has afforded me too much time to think.  When I go to work tomorrow, I'll be busy, and that will help.  My blood work is set for 3 in the afternoon on  Tuesday, but I may see if I can go early so I can wait for the results.  If my whites aren't back in the normal range of 4.0 - 11.0, I have to cancel my plastic surgeon's appointment and my chemo on Thursday will likely be postponed.

I would think, after over a week on antibiotics, my counts will be fine.  However, I would have thought they'd climb higher than .7 after 4 days on IV antibiotics.  They were .6 on Tuesday .5 on Wednesday, .43 on Thursday, and .7 on Friday.  They can't tell if that was a "trend" toward upward numbers, or just a fluctuation.  They let me come home, though, because there was nothing they were doing there that I cannot do at home.

I'm home.  I figured the "I'm home" post would be happy and fun.  Call it lack of sleep, the headache, or the whiny state I'm in, but I missed that goal by a long shot.  My feelings are hurt by the slightest little thing, I'm exhausted, but need to expend energy in order to get more sleep.  For the first time in my life, I'm in the middle of a weekend that seems to be going on too long.  Sorry, my working friends.  I know that comes as a betrayal to you all.  I promise to be crabby about Monday like the rest of you.

The Whiny Post

Sorry to all those who have said how amazing I'm doing, but this post is whiny, so maybe skip it?  I like the idea of you guys thinking I'm such a butt kicker and all, but today nearly won this battle.

I woke up at 1:45, tried to go back to sleep until 2:30 and gave up.  Got up and ready, took meds, talked to Kevin, felt the 'roids kick in, and headed to work.  The morning went great, as always, because of the steroids, but they were taken earlier, so they also wore off earlier.  I should have left at noon, but I was sure I could get more time in.

It turns out good (in one way) that I did, since something came up at 1:00 that needs attention before Monday.  I volunteered to do it from home, since it can be done time anytime before Sunday  morning (on my time = doable for me) and I left at 1:30.  It was the first time that, all the way home, I regretted how long I'd stayed.  Or how far I lived from the lab.  Either one.  Both.

Now I'm back in the recliner.  I likely won't move until morning.  Two dear work friends bought Funhouse Pizza for me to bring home, so I have dinner on the table for my family like a good mom.  :)  If I wasn't a lump in the corner, someone might buy that line.  Anyway, so many coworkers have sent meals and food home and it has helped tremendously.

Tonight I take my last does of steroids, get my hair cut as soon as they open (before the medicine is out of my body) and get home.  I hear I'll likely sleep all day.  We'll see.  After three nights of not sleeping, I'll take a full day of it.  Also, I've been advised to ask my oncologist for a mild sleep aid for the next round, and I won't have to go through these three sleepless nights.

And this concludes the pissing and moaning.  Over and Out.

Edited later to add:  Make that FOUR sleepless nights.  *sigh*

Jaxson, HFMD, and Job Hunting

Jaxson is a big ol' jerk.  The quantity went up, significantly up, yesterday.  I almost let it break me.  My girls were here to watch season finales with me and keep me from melting into a complete pity pot, although I did post some pretty whiny stuff on Facebook and my favorite message boards.

There is a reason that this is happening.  I'm either not supposed to lose this drain yet, or I'm not supposed to start chemo on Tuesday.  I don't know what the reason is, but I'm sure there is one, so I'm going to shut my dang mouth about it.  Whining will get me nowhere.

I took Natalie to the Minute Clinic yesterday morning.  I told them, "She has a sore throat, sores in her mouth and spots on her hands and feet."  The nurse practitioner asked, "What are you thinking?"  I said, "I think she has Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease."  She nodded that she agreed.  Then she went to Bing on her computer and looked up the facts that she thought I should know.

The fact that I diagnosed her and they used a search engine didn't keep them from charging the full $25 copay. LOL  It's viral, so there's not much we can do other than Tylenol for pain and a prescription mouth rinse that helps with the mouth pain.  She is miserable.

I can NOT get this stuff.  Seriously.  That would cause a whole new batch of problems for me.  There is a lot of hand washing going on in this house.  LOL  Hand washing and complaining (from both of us.)

Monica is out of school for the summer, so the great job hunt is on.  She attacks a different nearby town each day.  It's amazing how many places won't hire you unless you are 18.  I don't remember it being that way, but it's probably a safety issue.  I hope she finds something.  I'll never forget how great it felt to have that freedom, responsibility, and MONEY!  ha ha

OK, If I disappear for a while, it means I have nothing new to say.  I don't want anyone to think that my absence means there is a problem.  I just find myself turning into a whiny-post person, and I don't want to be that person.  I can promise you with 100% certainty that I will post an update the moment I lose the drain.  :)
